Vintage Wedding Ring Quilts
In the 1930's and 40's quilts named the Wedding Ring Quilt and the Double Wedding Ring Quilt were quite common and a very popular pattern with quilters. The patterns were published in several magazines and newspapers making it widely available. Pre cut fabric Kits were very popular. The double wedding ring quilt got it's own special category in fairs.
The double wedding ring quilt pattern was thought to be so popular because during the depression era quilters used as many scraps as possible to be frugal. Dress material could be bought for eight cents a yard if scraps ran short. Even old dresses, clothing and sack cloth was cut into patterns and used. The Wedding Ring Quilt and Double Wedding Ring Quilt were usually made for special occasions or heirlooms.
